The group minus one, who had to leave early on Friday with her family. Some of the kids finished their projects ahead of schedule so I brought out quilting squares for them to play with, hence the patchwork pillows.
A McCall's sundress in a diminutive gingham with a pink cotton lawn band and straps was fun to wear while designing for quarter size forms and making patchwork pillows!
A pleated skirt has a lapped zipper in the back and a beautiful blue rayon grosgrain ribbon waistband held together with a hook and eye. Here the young stitcher is pinning up her narrow rolled hem, then it was on to quilting!
Some girls made this McCall's pattern as a dress; this sewist made it as a top. Although it is hard to see because of her hair she chose to make the straps long, extending into a bow on her right shoulder with long ties rather than the plain straps the other kids chose.
So many kids struggle with reading and interpreting pattern instructions so it was a watershed moment when this young lady finally clicked with her written guide! I am thrilled for her because being able to follow written instructions can apply to so many things other than sewing. (She did a great job on her dress, too!)
Although it wouldn't get finished until the following week in Junior Designer camp this ambitious sewist got a great start on her lined Project Runway jacket. It involved cutting a LOT of pieces and on Wednesday after lunch she was finally able to start sewing.
Whether finishing her seams with an overlock or pinning the band lining in place, this young lady possesses a calm confidence. Her Simplicity sundress has a clean, cool feeling evoked by choosing white for the contrast pieces.
