It all started when Mimi came to her mother with a startling discovery: "Mom! Did you know they don't teach you how to sew in college? You'd better sign me up!"
A gift of Betz White's Warm Fuzzies brought inspiration for these mittens and matching scarf. Needle felted hearts were a lot of work but also a giant "aha!"
Zigzagging felted sweaters together makes for a rippled seam but the magic of wool is that with steam and pressure one can flatten out the waves quite nicely!
A Kwik Sew skirt with four tiers of ruffles is made up in a cotton voile . . . it took a lot of time but was well worth the effort. Mimi did a two-thread narrow rolled hem on an overlock machine to finish the bottom edge of her ruffles and learned how to gather.
While trying on her skirt Mimi discovered that the ruffles floated when she moved the skirt quickly in a downward direction so we tried to photograph the effect. Timing was everything -- getting ready, going up, leveling out, coming down and watch those ruffles float!
