PAVI

Pavi has been dancing with the Minnesota Ballet Theatre since she was three. To round out her life her mother arranged for private sewing lessons and we meet twice a month for two hour sessions. When Pavi sews she dances with her fingertips! In ten months she went from a home sewing machine to one of my industrial straight lines; her sensitive touch helped her to adjust quickly to my most spirited machine. She took two months off to perform in The Nutcracker and when she returns we're going to focus on design.

Pavi learns a factory technique for inserting elastic in her first project, a pair of pajama pants.

Next came a teal cotton skirt with a silver metallic thread running vertically with the stripe and a fun little flounce.
For summer Pavi stitched up a white linen dress with beaded embellishments. She underlined the bodice and added a skirt lining from which she hung wide eyelet lace.
Pavi pins the straps for her last project of the year, a lined bag with big inside pockets and a top zipper. She fell in love with the watery feel of two pieces of Amy Butler fabric and modified a commercial pattern to accommodate all the dance stuff she has to carry. When she could no longer fit the thickness of her bag under a home machine presser foot she moved on to a commercial machine.
