Sewing 101

This is the definitive class on how to use a sewing machine. Geared for extreme beginners it may also be helpful if you’ve just switched machines and want to get acquainted with your new one.

Skill Level: Beginner

Time:  12:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Cost: $85

Teacher: Izzy

Fee includes supplies.

Students receive a 10% discount on all shop purchases, including machines!

Learn the parts and functions of your machine and become confident in your ability to operate it. You'll leave this class with your first project, a lined drawstring pouch.

There are a lot of basic sewing techniques in this little project that can be applied to future sewing endeavors.

What you’ll learn

Sewing basics:

• Wind a bobbin

• Thread a machine

• Pin fabric

• Cut fabric

• Sew fabric

Sewing techniques:

• How to turn corners for nice sharp points

• Get crisp edges, which involves pressing strategies

• Hand sewing

• A nifty way to make a knot

•  Sew invisibly by hand

• You’ll even create your own twisted cord!

What to bring

If you don’t have a machine you can use a Sewing Lounge machine at no extra charge. Let us know when you register and we’ll reserve one of ours for your use.

If you have a machine in good working condition we encourage you to bring it so you can learn on what you will be using. Other than that the only other thing you need to bring is your enthusiasm!

We will provide all necessary tools and supplies.
